More Dragonboy-Themed Utility Belts

One week to our big show of the year in SFO and we are on a roll now.
Here are some more belt pouches using Dragonboy's art and our industrial textile collage.
These are sized for a 40oz water bottle.  Smaller pouches hold an Iphone or other large phone, or a wallet, keys, lighter, and chapstick.
Materials include printed art canvas, printed cotton canvas, denim, fire hose, printed nylon mesh, jobsite mesh, leather, and repurposed camo shirts.

Fire Hose Handbags, Collage Messenger Bag, and Hip(ster) Pouches

Down to the wire for the Bizarre Bazaar this weekend, and we have been scrambling to finish all the random projects that we have started in the last few weeks.
Here are Erika's new handbags, a hemp and camo collaged fullsize messenger bag, and some small hip pouches that are big enough for cellphone, camera, and wallet.

stirrings of life out in the shop..

We are starting to get back on the pony.  We are going to be vending at the Bicycle Harvest Party at the end of October, and need to make some goods before then!  Also starting to think about the Bizarre Bazaar - Chikoko's annual holiday fair, and our favorite event.  Here are some new things.

Erika scored 231 of these tough zippers at the Salvation Army, look for them all over our stuff until they are gone.

Erika just whipped this messenger out from one of her old paintings.

Details  - I love my wife.

Img_4322
I am making pockets - this is what I do when I don't feel up to actually putting bags together - lots of bag parts.

Pocket full o' texture.  Sorry, Pearson (friend with texture-phobia)!

More pockets fronts - these will go into the outside of the bulgy pockets below.

Img_4326
Detail - I have decided to own the fact that many of our materials are old and frayed.  If you want a bag that looks like it was made in China by a crew of terrified teenagers working under an anal Nazi line-director (meaning clean, all edges trimmed, no raw fiber visible) I will make you one, but I am going to charge you quadruple!

In the spirit of reuse, I present my 15 year old bike seat - coming soon, to a pocket near you.

Img_4329
Who doesn't like camo?  This is vintage, not to be associated with our current militarism.  Camo from old wars - we promise not to use any pixelated desert camo for at least 30 years.

Bulgy pocket detail.  We saw some festival belts at the International Festival at Chico State last week, and I am knocking off some of their details.  I love knocking off details from mass-produced imports for some reason.  If you are designing any hipster festival belts and having them made in India, know that I am going to plagiarize them and sell them to people that will pay three times as much because I made them here, myself.  HA!  You can't have third-world slave labor and your first-world intellectual property rights too, I love it!  Fire hose trim and hemp-cotton canvas from German Army bags.

Super Directional firehose utility belt and sash, Iron Curtain skirt.

Often I have a  lot of small hose scraps let after I cut for a bag.  They make perfect triangles, and lately this has been a theme.  Here is a toolbelt that I made a few weeks ago that we are posting on Etsy tonight.
The dressmakers form/model is wearing a hemp duffel bag skirt and firehose sash.  In fact, the whole ensemble will be up on Etsy tonight, so don't hold back!

Skylar's Bag

Back in April, we made some fabric by collaging strips of old mechanics coveralls and then parallel-stitching and washing the finished piece.
I traded a way funky, stream-of-conciousness belt-pouch bag to Mona for some nice belts at her yard sale last weekend - Skylar saw it and got excited about having his own hip(ster) pouch.
Img_2430
This is the bag that Mona got - the freeform stitching on the thrift-store vinyl belt was done with our 120 year old Singer Patcher sewing machine.

Here is the one that I made for Skylar last night.

The body of the bag is a vintage reused Eastern European Army Duffel Bag made from hemp, with foreground fabric being our collaged coveralls.

Wear it well,
Zeke

Prepared for the Playa

Wrapping up prep for this weekend's pre-Burning Man artisan's faire in SFO.  Sara Rose, Ernesto, and Amber were by the shop last night to give us a critique and today Sara Rose brought over some mannequins!
Yeoww, they are from Victoria's Secret - it is wild to see our wares on a fantasy body type - thanks Rosy!

Hot Summer Nights in the Shop

It is about 5 degrees warmer in the shop than outside, but we have lots of fans, and it is tolerable.  We are still on a push to make goods for 'Prepare for the Playa'.
New skirts, shorts, kilts, belts and pouches rolling off of the line.  Hard to focus, but we are amped.
